For a successful electricity transition, it is essential to skill, up-skill and train Victoria’s energy workforce, and have a supply chain that meets our growing energy sector needs.
That’s why we are delivering the Renewable Hydrogen Worker Training Centre and the Wind Worker Training Centre. These centres will ensure Victoria has a pipeline of skilled workers to meet workforce needs and deliver the wind and renewable hydrogen projects to come.
The Worker Training Centres will play key roles in attracting, upskilling, and delivering training that supports the accessibility, growth, mobility, and retention of workers. The Worker Training Centres will help position Victoria as the leading training and education state in Australia for wind and renewable hydrogen.
Jobs in wind energy
Victoria’s onshore and offshore wind sectors will play a key role in helping Victoria meet its renewable energy and offshore wind energy generation targets - with Victoria set to be the home of Australia’s first offshore wind farms.
Offshore wind energy will bring considerable opportunity for Victoria’s workforce, mobilising thousands of workers to deliver our target of 9GW by 2040 and creating long-term opportunities during the lifetime of the industry, particularly in the regions closest to offshore wind sites. Offshore Wind Energy Implementation Statement 3 outlines our next steps in developing an offshore wind sector and the skills and capabilities of the workforce at each of the offshore wind project phases.
Jobs in renewable hydrogen energy
We are also building the foundations for a thriving renewable hydrogen economy to ensure Victoria can capture the benefits of this emerging energy source. Renewable hydrogen has the potential to help decarbonisation of hard to abate sectors. There are a broad range of renewable hydrogen projects already underway in heavy transport, long duration energy storage, industrial decarbonisation, sustainable aviation fuel, and green methanol.
