For renters

If you are renting a property in Victoria, you are eligible for upgrades under the VEU program. However, there are rules about the changes you can make to your rental property.

Before making any changes, check with your landlord as you might need permission, depending on the type of changes, type of rental property, and length of rental agreement (lease).

Consumer Affairs Australia has a list of changes you can make without your landlord’s permission.

This information can be found at Consumer Affairs Victoria, renters making changes to the property.

For landlords

Installing energy-efficient products can enhance your property’s appeal to tenants and cuts down on maintenance and operating costs.

The VEU program makes these upgrades more affordable.

You can use the program at any time, including emergencies such as a failed hot water or reverse cycle air conditioner.

Instead of a like-for-like replacement, choose energy-efficient products and take advantage of rebates and discounts through the VEU program.

For strata and body corporations

Owners Corporation are eligible under the VEU program either as a residential premise, or a commercial premises depending on the building classification.

Residential premises mean a building classified as a Class 1, 2, 3 or 4 building under Part A6 of Volume One of the Building Code.

Any other building code class should be eligible for commercial activities.
