11 October 2024 - Induction cooktops response to consultation released

The Department of Energy, Environment, and Climate Action has released its response to the consultation conducted earlier this year on a proposed new Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) induction cooktops activity. The department would like to sincerely thank everyone who took the time to make submissions and appreciates your feedback.

Please note that the proposed changes and any indicative dates are subject to further consideration and final approval.

Stakeholders are advised not to make any decisions related to these changes until final Regulations and Specifications have been approved and published.

Following analysis and review of submissions, the department is proposing the following regarding the proposed induction cooktops activity.

  • The department is proposing to introduce a new pilot induction cooktop activity (Part 46) that provides incentives for the purchase of a new induction cooktop.
  • A draft list of eligible products has been published based on products that meet specified requirements. Further information is expected to be provided on the eligible product list once the activity is introduced.
  • Freestanding, that is combined oven and induction cooktop stoves are proposed to be eligible for inclusion on the specified product list, alongside in-bench induction cooktops.
  • Certain types of plug-in induction cooktops are proposed to be eligible for inclusion on the specified product list.
  • It is proposed that there will be a minimum co-payment of $200 (inc. GST) per induction cooktop.
  • It is proposed that induction cooktops cannot be purchased through the VEU program for an address where a house has been built in the past 2 years.
  • It is proposed that induction cooktops can only be purchased through the VEU program for a house with an existing gas connection.
  • It is proposed that induction cooktops cannot be purchased through the VEU program if the household has already claimed an incentive for one cooktop.

The induction cooktops activity is proposed to commence from 25 October 2024. Full details on the proposed changes, as well as the Response to Consultation, draft consumer factsheet and draft product list are available on Engage Victoria.
