The Victorian Energy Upgrades programs now offers discounts to households for purchasing eligible induction cooktops.
There are many benefits to choosing an efficient induction cooktop over gas alternatives.
Induction cooktops:
- are around 3 times more efficient than gas cooktops, driving down bills and emissions
- are also far healthier, as they avoid emissions of harmful contaminants that cause respiratory illnesses and symptoms
- are favoured by a growing range of professional chefs. Induction cooktops heat with more precision, cook quicker, and provide greater temperature control.
Cooktops also promote cooler kitchens. The cooktop surface only heats when a pot or pan is present. This contains the heat to the cookware and not in the surrounding environment.
Finally, they are easier to clean, normally only requiring a simple wipe-down.
Gas cooktops and ovens are often the last gas appliance in a house to be replaced. Removing them may allow a home to become gas free.
This means the annual gas network connection charges could be permanently avoided. This may save around $350 to $400 yearly on fixed network charges, in addition to lower energy cost for cooking.
Supporting Victorian households to transition to induction cooktops also lowers the risk of Victorian children developing respiratory conditions such as asthma.
Eligibility
To be eligible to purchase a discounted induction cooktop through the Victorian Energy Upgrades Program, you must:
- have an existing gas or LPG connection at your home - you will need a gas bill or LPG invoice issued to your address within the past 3 months as evidence
- have a home that was built at least 2 years ago
- have not already claimed an incentive
- purchase a specified product between 25 October 2024 and 25 October 2025.
Living in a rental property?
If you’re living in a private rental property, you are still eligible to receive a discount on one induction cooktop. We recommend that landlords and tenants work together when doing any upgrades to a rental property.
How to choose your new induction cooktop
It is important to choose an induction cooktop that is a suitable size for your household. Every household and kitchen bench is unique, and this impacts what cooktop size is appropriate. High power induction cooktops can heat much faster than a gas cooktop, and quality products may offer better control at certain temperatures.
We recommend reviewing our guidance to help you choose the right induction cooktop for your home.
